Diluting Essential Oils for Children and Babies

Diluting Essential Oils for Children and Babies

When  you love essential oils, you want to share them with your whole family – including the newest members! Essential oils can be fantastic for young children and babies, but it’s important to use oils in a way that is safe for their sensitive systems. Being extra careful around your little ones can help ease some stress. Here’s what you need to know about using essential oils in the nursery.

+ If you are concerned or have questions about an oil, consult a health professional or advocate before administering oils, especially if your baby or child is sick.  (Remember not all oils are created the same.)

+ To avoid sensitive little noses, dilute a small amount of oil in an ultrasonic diffuser like our Dolphin Reef Diffuser

or the Feather The Owl Diffuser next to cribs and play areas.

+ Babies love to splash during bath time; avoid adding oils in their tub, so they don’t ingest or get any of it in their eyes.

+ Wear essential oils on your skin to help your kids acclimate to the fragrance.

+ Heavily dilute a new essential oil following the guide above and perform a spot test on your child’s arm or leg. If no reaction occurs after several minutes, the oil is probably okay to use.

+ Gentle Babies by Debra Raybern is one of my favorite reference books specifically written for little ones and pregnancy.
